What services does Pedal.World offer and how does it work for merchants?
Pedal.World is your new online destination for reaching thousands of customers online. We offer people an easy way to find, book and pay for bike rentals, guided tours, accommodation and cycling events – across Europe. Through our webpage, you can list your services as well as get new bookings and payments in a secure environment.
Here’s how it works:
- Customers search for a bike in the area they select and book a service of a merchant they are interested in. The booking is submitted to the merchant with any additional questions or comments.
- Customers specify: booking date and time, bike types, sizes and amount required, accessories and additional services
- The merchant has the option to confirm the booking, decline the booking, or ask more questions.
- Note – the merchant also needs to confirm the prices and potentially adjust the prices shown. This may happen if you have booked for a longer time period, or as a group, and will qualify for a discount.
- Once the merchant has confirmed the booking, customers pay Pedal.World. We pay the merchant (minus commission) once the rental period has started. If the customer is experiencing any issues with the booking, the payment can be placed on hold.
- The merchant makes sure the services are ready for and delivered to the customer as agreed.
How do I create an account on Pedal.World?
It’s easy! Just go to the Merchant Account page and follow the steps there. If you have any problems with the sign-up, let us know. The Merchant Account page will be available from November onwards.
Listing my services on Pedal.World
Who can list on Pedal.World?
Any bike shop/tour operator/hotel/company with bikes to hire or that organizes guided bike tours or biker-friendly accommodation! We’re focusing on established operators to guarantee quality services for the customer. At the moment we’re listing merchants located in Europe only.
Are there any restrictions on what can be listed?
We’ll check all listings before they go live – but you should list all the bikes you have for hire, and any accessories you can hire too! For the moment being customers can’t buy items, only hire, through the site. If you have a type of a bike or accessory that is not listed as an option or upsell on the site, let us know and we will add it to the site for you.
Do I need to list all items in my bike rental, guided tours or accomodation on Pedal.World to qualify as a merchant?
It is up to you to decide how many and which items (bikes, accessories, tours etc) you want to list on Pedal.World service. We hope you will notice soon that listing all your items on our site will bring you more business and proves to be beneficial!
Can I use Pedal.World’s booking engine platform on my own site for handling bookings that take place directly on my site?
Yes, you can, later on we are planning to provide integrations of the booking calendar on your website. An integration setup fee will apply. However, in order for you to qualify to use our booking platform for handling your own bookings (i.e. those bookings that do not go through Pedal.World’s service), you should have at least 10 items publicly listed on Pedal.World at all times.
What do you charge?
There are no setup fees or monthly payments for being listed on Pedal.World! We just take a commission of 10% of the total booking value of any order placed through our site for bike rentals and guided tours, and a 5% commission for events. We think this is a fair amount for the thousands of additional customers you will be exposed to, and the marketing and transaction functionality that we will be implementing for you.
Do I have to charge a specific price? How much should I charge?
The price you charge is completely up to you, you remain in complete control of your offer. If you have any questions on how much to charge, or want to know what might be sensible, please do get in touch and we will give you our best advice!
How do I set custom pricing? (E.g. for long reservations, off-seasons)?
We have a functionality in place on our booking calendar allowing you to set custom prices for certain periods, provide a discount for groups or add optional services as an upsell. Please always check the pricing quoted to the customer for each booking and adjust if necessary when you are confirming the booking.
Can I list guided bike or cycling tours combined with bike rentals I offer on the site?
Yes, you can. We try to make it as easy as possible for the customer to pick their optimal biking holiday including guided tours. We recommend you list 4 to 5 tours with a description (duration, difficulty,…) as to give concrete examples of the tours you provide. If you have bikes to rent, these can additionally be charged for.
How do I activate my listing on Pedal.World?
Once you’ve completed the sign-up listing, it will be submitted to the Pedal.World team to review. We’ll then let you know when it is up and running – and hopefully you will start receiving bookings immediately!
I want to boost my sales. How do I buy featured marketing space on Pedal.World?
There are various ways to boost sales, e.g. giving out discounts during low-season can be an effective way to get more sales. Also, Pedal.World offers featured marketing space on the service website as well as in newsletters and social media. Please contact Pedal.World [add link] sales team for more info.
How do I view and send messages from customers?
You will receive an email notification when you receive a booking/message/enquiry from a customer. Later on we are planning to integrate functionality where you can view all of the messages regarding a specific booking, and you can log in to the booking page of your business.
How soon should I answer to a booking inquiry?
You have 48 hours to respond to a booking. We will send you a reminder after 24 hours, but if you do not respond within 48 hours we will help the customer look elsewhere. So please make sure you are paying attention to the email address you signed up with
Can I decline booking inquiries?
Yes – but please make sure you provide a response to the customer as soon as possible if you can’t provide a service, so that they can make alternative arrangements. Remember that it is considered good practice to provide information on availability directly on Pedal.World’s booking calendar to avoid unnecessary customer contacts and frustrated customers. We all want to make the booking process as smooth as possible for all parties involved!
What if my guest cancels their booking?
Our standard terms and conditions [link] following general practice regarding cancellations are as follows. If a customer cancels, you will still receive what the customer was liable for (minus their refund, and Pedal.World’s commission).
- Cancellation more than 28 days before rental: 100% refund
- Cancellation between 28 and 14 days before rental: 75% refund
- Cancellation between 14 and 7 days before rental: 50% refund
- Cancellation less than 7 days before rental day: no refund
- No show or only partial use of period of rental: no refund
What if my guest doesn’t show up for their booking?
In that case, please get in touch with us and we will try to find out what is going on. If the customer doesn’t give you a warning, they will still be liable for the cost of renting the bike.
What if I want to collect a deposit?
You can do that – we would suggest you take a deposit when the customer collects the bike. Pedal.World does not provide a deposit collection feature for the time being.
What if the customer has made a booking including items from various merchants – how are the payments handled?
Pedal.World service provides a functionality for the customer to choose various items from different merchants into one booking/shopping cart (e.g. bike rentals + guided tours + accommodation). The customer pays everything as one package, and Pedal.World’s service then splits the payment for various merchants accordingly. Easy!
How do I charge for delivery?
You can either add this to the total cost of the bikes on our booking form or collect in cash on delivery. We recommend adding this to the booking as an upsell/addition option.
What if a customer damages a bike?
The contract for rental is between yourself and the customer, we just provide the booking tool. You may decide you want to collect a deposit from the customer in order to protect against such instances or specify your terms and conditions (in short) on your vendor page on Pedal.World. As per our Terms & Conditions, Pedal.World is not responsible for the actions of a customer using your bikes.
How do payments work, and when do I get paid for a rental?
The customer pays Pedal.World at the time of booking, and we will pay you the day after the rental has started (the full amount after our commission). This is simply to ensure that everything is as expected with the bike – which we are sure it will be! We will send you a notification once you have been paid.
Any other questions? Please get in touch – we are always happy to chat!
